Traveling is simply a great way to live your life. Why waste your limited lifetime experiencing a single place while you can travel a wonderful planet that can amaze you with every step you make?

Traveling is more than visiting new places. It’s about discovering your true self, about broadening your mind and perception, about world and life, and about expanding your cultural knowledge.

As great as it sounds, it might not be that easy, especially if you travel alone. That’s why, in today’s post, we’re presenting our top 25 tips for successful solo traveling, especially if you’re a female traveling on your own.

1. Save Up

Unfortunately, traveling is neither free nor cheap, so you need to save up month by month in order to have the best time of your life. Make a realistic budget for your traveling expenses to make sure you’ll have enough money to turn back home.

2. Buy Travel Insurance

Better safe than sorry, right? You don’t know what can happen during your trip, but if you end up in a hospital, the last thing you want to worry about is how much debt you’re in.

3. Pack Light

This is a key rule for traveling alone. There’s no need to carry dozens of outfits with you when nobody knows you, especially if you’ll wear swim wear most of your trip

4. Book Only Accommodations with Multiple Positive Reviews

The last thing you want to do when you travel alone is to end up in a creepy place. Ensure that your accommodation is a safe place for you by checking the reviews.

5. Look For Hostels with Common Spaces

Hostels with common space are great when you’re traveling alone. This way you won’t feel so lonely and you could easily engage in conversation with other travelers.

6. Protect Your Identity

Don’t give away your real name so easily to anybody, and don’t mention your hotel’s name and room while you’re chatting with strangers.

7. Stay Low-Key

You don’t want to attract too much attention with expensive jewelry or electronics. If possible leave expensive items at home or store them unseen in your luggage.

8. Learn a Few Phrases in the Local Language

If you make a little effort to learn just a few phrases in the local languages, simple things like “good morning, how are you?”, the locals will appreciate you and it will be easier to make some new friends.

9. Don’t Be Lonely

If you travel alone, it doesn’t mean that you have to be lonely. Just put a smile on your face and just be friendly with anyone you encounter, even if it’s the bartender from the coffee shop.

10. Establish a Routine

If you always drink your coffee from the same place every day during your trip, it will be easier to get to know people who’ll have your back if necessary.

11. Do Something New Each Day

Traveling is all about experiencing new things. Therefore, you should do your research and look for things you can do around, experiences that you’ve never tried before.

12. Meet Other Travelers

These days, there is an app for everything. If you feel lonely, you can leverage more travel apps for meeting other travelers, regardless of your location.

The best way to get to know a place is to take a day tour to visit and learn about its main attractions.

14. Become a Regular Customer

The staff always remember a regular customer, so you’d better eat at the same restaurant every morning and have a nice conversation too.

15. Be Obvious

You don’t have to hide the fact that you’re a traveler, so put that map on the table because a restaurant is often a safe place for a traveler.

16. Read a Book

The last thing you want to do when you’re traveling is waste your time sleeping. You must sleep of course, but not all day long, so you barely get the chance to visit a beautiful place.

You can be you with no strings attached. No one knows you and might not even speak your language, so there are no strings attached. Actually, you can be whoever you want to be.

20. Have Fun but Stay Safe

You’re on vacation, so you must have some fun. However, as you travel alone, you might want to keep some details for yourself. When you have too much fun, unfortunate things might happen.

22. Keep Your Valuables Safe

Tourists are the first spotted out by robbers, so keep your valuables close. If you have a backpack, you’d better keep it where you can see it.

23. Keep Family and Friends Updated with Your Travel Plans

Someone should always know what you’re doing or at least what you’re supposed to do. When you travel alone with no one to have your back, your family and close friends should stay updated just in case you go missing.
