Budget Travel: 5 Fun and Free Activities in Dubai
Dubai is an exotic bucket list travel destination but it doesn’t have to put a dent in your wallet when you’re looking for fun and unique activities that can be enjoyed in the city.
If you’re visiting on a limited budget, there are quite a few options on the list of top tourist attractions in Dubai that won’t break the bank. This guide suggests five of the best free activities that are not only budget-friendly, they’re also some of the most sought-after adventures visitors can experience in Dubai!
For a mesmerizing treat, head downtown to the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa, where the Dubai Fountain delights visitors with choreographed displays of water, light, and sound. The dancing water is a much-loved attraction in Dubai, and best of all, it’s completely free!
Dubai Fountain performances can be seen from nearly every point around the 30-acre Burj Khalifa Lake and from many neighboring buildings. Grab your favorite viewing spot and enjoy the show.
Performances take place daily at 1:00 pm and at 1:30 pm. For evening visitors, the show runs every 30 minutes from 6 pm to 10 pm on weekdays, and from 6 pm to 11 pm on weekends.
Dubai Mall Aquarium and Waterfall
One of the world’s largest shopping centers, the 4-story Dubai Mall is home to over 1,200 shops where buyers can purchase the most extravagant brands. Have no fear though, a simple mall visit won’t cost you anything and is definitely worth your time. The two mall attractions you shouldn’t miss are The Waterfall and The Dubai Aquarium.
The Waterfall, which sends water cascading from the uppermost level of the mall, features decorative sculptures creating a visual delight that complements the rhythmic flow of water.
Head next to the ground floor of the mall, where you’ll find The Dubai Aquarium. While admission requires an entrance fee, visitors can view part of the aquarium from the mall itself for no cost.
Dubai Marina is an exciting destination situated along the picturesque Persian Gulf shores. The marina offers visitors plenty of options during daytime hours, but the best time to visit is after sunset.
Stroll along the paved beachfront walkway while you people-watch, window-shop or dine at one of many restaurants. It’s free to walk the entire 7 km length, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Dubai has several free beaches, the most popular being The Beach at JBR. This is the closest public beach to Dubai Marina and features seaside lounging or just lay out your towel for a cost-free way to enjoy the sun and sand.
Kite Beach, another option for free things to do in Dubai, is located under the sail of the Burj Al Arab. Visitors can find plenty of beach fun or test out their kite surfing skills. If water sports aren’t your thing, there’s shopping and food trucks selling beachside snacks.
Traditional Souk Markets
Experience the exotic side of Dubai when visiting the traditional markets. Spice Souk and Gold Souk are tourist favorites where visitors can find tradesmen and artists offering unique and traditional mementos of time spent in Dubai.
As with almost everything in Dubai, the markets come to life in the evening. Don’t forget to bargain if you decide to make a purchase, but it’s free to walk among the marketplaces.
Don’t let a limited budget deter you from planning a visit to Dubai. There are plenty of free and fun activities in Dubai where you will experience the wonders of the region and feel like you are indulging in the best the area has to offer.
