Don’t Let a Leaky Bladder Ruin Your Life
I was asked by Carusele to participate in this campaign, sponsored by Prevail. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
When I was younger, I never thought I would have to think about a persistently leaky bladder. But here I am, peeing myself every time I sneeze, cough, or wait just a little bit too long to “go.” I was asked by Carusele to share my story and participate in this campaign, sponsored by Prevail®. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
I had six children by the time I reached my late thirties. Now, 24 years since my last child was born, I’m solidly in menopause, which has only worsened my leaking bladder woes. I’m ready to get over feeling embarrassed about leaky bladders. Perhaps if more of us openly talked about it, the stigma would disappear for good.
In the Beginning
When I had just two children underfoot, I remember handling the mishaps of a not quite potty-trained toddler and a newborn with a tendency to pee on me during diaper changes. Adding to my already crazy day, I was wearing panty liners around the clock to catch pesky leaks. I wondered if I should not only buy diapers for my babies but buy some for myself too.
My leaks only got worse from there.
The Struggle Gets Worse
Although I sometimes joke about needing to change clothes after I sneeze, it’s really not funny. Whenever I feel a sneeze coming on, I have to stop and concentrate on clenching my muscles to try to stop the flow of urine before it leaks out. I’m not always successful.
Before kids, and now menopause, I could jump, exercise, or do any other physical activity without incident. Now, I worry about how close the nearest bathroom might be whenever I leave the house. I often avoided leaving the house altogether because I hated having to figure out how I was going to keep from embarrassing myself in public because of my leaky bladder.
But, no more!!
I recently tried both the maximum and ultimate absorbency Prevail® Bladder Control Pads and brief products and found that when wearing them, I could confidently go about my day. I could participate in outdoor activities without worrying about embarrassing bladder leaks and could even sneeze and cough without needing to change my underwear!
