Adventures in Tennessee Agritourism: The Wandering Llamas

Agricultural tourism, or agritourism, is one of the fastest-growing trends in the travel industry, combining agricultural settings, services, and products with a unique tourism experience.

In the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, agritourism is a growing segment of the rural economy where businesses serve customers that often value the experience of visiting the area as much as the experiences they enjoy along the way.

If you’re planning an agritourism focused day trip, or even a week-long vacation to the eastern Tennessee area, you must check out The Wandering Llamas! The herd of sweet and fun llamas will help make unforgettable memories while your entire party enjoys an amazing adventure that you’ll be talking about for years to come.

Hang Out With Llamas

I’ve spent some time trekking with The Wandering Llamas and I must say, visitors can easily have the time of their lives no matter which llama-based activity they choose. Owner Sandy Sgrillo offers everything from a walk in the woods llama day trek, to fun specialty themed treks, to LlamaLlodge glamorous camping, also known as glamping, and so much more!

Day Treks

If you want to spend a day interacting and hiking with llamas, a day trek would be a great option. The Wandering Llamas offers several day trek choices suitable for most fitness levels. On all treks, bring your own snacks, drinks, and lunch (for longer treks). The llamas will carry coolers with ice to keep everything nice and cold so you can enjoy ice-cold trailside refreshment.

If you’re on a tight schedule, the 2-hour Short Trek is your best bet. You’ll lead a llama on a 1 to 2-mile-long trail that’ll give you great photo opportunities and lots of llama fun.

If you have more time, the 3-hour Lunch Trek will get you out on the trail with a relaxing lunch stop included. The llamas will carry tables, chairs, and coolers with ice, so pack your best trail lunch and book your trip today.

If you love live entertainment, then the Live Music Trek is for you! There’s two dates this Spring: April 13thand May 25, 2019, so don’t delay and book your choice date.

On the Live Music Trek, you’ll enjoy an easy 2-hour llama trek, stopping for lunch and to listen to the musical sounds from the band Wild Mountain Honey. Lunch on the Live Music Trek includes imported cheeses, specialty bread and crackers, fresh fruits, olives, and nuts. The trek is BYOB, so bring your favorite drinks, wine, or beer and let the llamas carry it to the lunch spot for you!

If music isn’t your thing, maybe you love hanging out in your pajamas. I know I do! If you too love comfy jammies, check out the Llama Pajama Party. Don’t miss out on this special trek being offered on April 24, 2019.

You’ll want to book today and reserve your spot at the Llama Pajama Party which includes a chance to win a free night in the glamping LlamaLlodge hut! See the special trek page for all the details.

If that wasn’t enough, The Wandering Llamas also offers Wine and Cheese Treks, Nature Photography Treks, Yoga Treks, 4th of July Camp Out and Llama Race, and even Relationship Reconnection Retreats. During the winter season, you can trek and sled with llamas too. So fun!

    1. Kids LOVE the llamas! Jambo, the youngest llama that Sandy has right now, is super sweet. All of the llamas are gentle and most of the time even kids as young as 4 years old can lead them.
